What is FocusGrid?

FocusGrid is a lightweight, privacy-first desktop gadget that helps you stay in the flow by automatically arranging your windows and gently nudging you when you lose focus.

Designed for developers, creators and knowledge workers, FocusGrid:

  • Detects common app combinations you use together (e.g., VS Code + Chrome)

  • Automatically applies your saved window layout for that work mode

  • Provides a small floating mini-hub showing your current session and a timer

  • Tracks frequent app switching and gives a subtle "refocus" nudge

  • Runs locally only — no cloud syncing, no telemetry (unless you enable it)

Privacy & security

FocusGrid only reads window titles and the active window for the purpose of layout detection and focus nudges. No files are uploaded anywhere. If you'd prefer, place FocusGrid in Windows' Controlled Folder Access or run in a restricted environment. Always review the code if you're using a pre-built binary from a third party.

How to use

----------

1. Install FocusGrid and run the program.

2. In the main window you can:

   - Manually apply one of the built-in layouts.

   - Start a focus session (default 50 minutes).

   - Let FocusGrid auto-detect common app combinations and apply layouts automatically.

3. Use the mini overlay to keep an eye on remaining focus time.

4. To customize layouts, open the FocusGrid settings folder (see README) and edit the JSON layout file.

Known limitations (v1.0)

• Optimized for Windows (Windows APIs are used for moving/resizing windows).

• Multi-monitor behavior is basic — recommended to use centered single-monitor layouts or wait for the multi-monitor update.

• Window matching relies primarily on window titles; for more robust matching, enable process-based matching in future releases.
